On this day, December 2nd in 537 AD, Pope Silverius died:
You'd think that a pope in Rome would be off topic here, but not
this one. He was accused of conspiring with the Goths by Antonia, the
wife of General Belisarius, and Belisarius exiled him to the island of
Palmarola where he died. He was replaced by Pope Vigilius appointed
from Constantinople, who was the first pope of the Byzantine Papacy.
